News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Artoooooor

More AI will surely solve this problem.
If the authors of the data are paid...ok. and not just the biggest players - every single one. But they are not.
Oh, it would be so nice to force the Great Thieves like "open"AI to release their weights on GPL license...
GDPR my ass.
Re:3rd Yandex Cloud Data Center Was Hit on Sunday October 11, 2026 @02:49PM (#50046484)
Now it's time to strike data centers of antisocial media and AI companies. They are doing even more harm to the world.
AI bros need to be punished for each such mistake of their system. Every false police report. Every hacking of external system. Every DDOSed website. Every falsely accused person (flock)
So now restore her life to state before arrest.
Re:What even is an OS now? on Friday September 25, 2026 @07:46PM (#49851616)
So - yet another way to turn a computer into a subscription service (to pay for the AI providers). No, thanks.
Re:Factorio that you can touch on Friday September 25, 2026 @07:37PM (#49851516)
A "screen" for blind people, where "pixels" would move up and down instead of changing colours would be so cool. Factorio would "display" the game world, something else would "display" text in Braille...
Re:Thelio Mira AI Linux Workstation: 192 GB GPU Memory on Friday September 11, 2026 @10:36AM (#49659218)
Damn, what a misleading price.
Re:Orbs on Sunday August 30, 2026 @10:57AM (#49499223)
For you not to waste your precious time - "orb" is just a virtual machine. And the thing requires a phone number, which it tells you at the END of the registration. I have new marketing jingle for that company: "market your AI slop with non-AI slop".
Re:Creepy Crawlies on Sunday August 30, 2026 @10:29AM (#49498975)
How expensive would AI access be if every user paid their fair share instead of shoving it on the people doing the actual work?
Now do it with all open source licenses, not just the most popular.
Re:Disruption with Some GitHub Services on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @06:55PM (#49457041)
Microsoft implemented a disruptive technology that caused...well... disruption.
That cases should end with prison sentences, not financial settlements.
Re:Nitter project received cease and desist on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @02:14PM (#49438233)
Remember, corporations may scrap you but you cannot scrap them.
Re:ChatGPT Desktop (Codex Desktop) for Linux on Thursday August 13, 2026 @09:06AM (#49285341)
About the damn time. Couldn't they vibe code the Linux version using the same very tool from the day one?
Re:No Meat Proxy on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @05:08PM (#49175176)
In case of lmgtfy the receiver was usually the lazy person. The question was usually so simple that simple that asking it for nth time on public forum was the waste of everyone's time. In case of pasting LLM response verbatim the responder is usually the one wasting everyone's time.
Re:GCC steering committee announces AI policy on Thursday July 30, 2026 @06:28PM (#49116681)
Of course the trained models, being derived from GPL code, become derivative work, and by extension - also GPL? Right?
Re:ZCode – Harness for GLM-5.2 on Thursday July 02, 2026 @05:05AM (#48758547)
I could use them as a provider if they shown concrete price per token. Or concrete number of tokens in each plan. Now I don't know what I would rent from them. If I were to buy hell knows what, I would go to Anthropic.
Re:Jolla Phone, Over 13 500 units sold on Friday June 26, 2026 @11:47AM (#48688033)
Another almost good phone without a mini jack :( User-replaceable battery, SD card port, mini jack, touchscreen that works consistently. Do I really ask for that much?
Do I understand correctly that publishing the same paper in multiple journals is considered self-plagiarism? Who in the name of the great monopoly invented such name for that?
Re:Half-Life 2 in a Browser on Thursday June 25, 2026 @05:58AM (#48671247)
What a time to be alive. My suggestion: progress bars instead of throbbers during loading data.
And if it includes at least one GPL source, they should release the weights on GPL license.
Every time I consider renting a service from Anthropic, they drop such bomb. Full capability with pre-agreed price per token and no ID verification. That's what I demand.
Re:Show HN: Aastro – Extendable API Gateway in Go on Saturday June 20, 2026 @06:51AM (#48608232)
First thing - it's very nice of you to explain what is it directly on the landing page, instead of "expand your possibilities, improve user experience".
How can they not anything to say about it? I demand answers both why they sneakily added it and then why they sneakily removed it. Especially if it was a burgerland government intervention.
Re:The 2-Year Apartment Rule on Thursday June 18, 2026 @04:57AM (#48582727)
I rented two apartments and it was quite stable each time. Normal breakdowns happened, but they were repaired on the owner's cost. They now serve people who live there now.
US government should not have a say what members of other nations can and cannot use. Especially outside of USA.
Thanks for the link. It contains link to list of the affected packages, that will be useful.
