Re:'Forced out': HOA fees to rise to $2,500 a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @12:38PM (#50291867)
How does somebody /not/ delegate when you have shared ownership or responsibility though? Shared walls, shared drives, shared roofs, etc?
Re:TLP Is Not a Suggestion on Thursday October 29, 2026 @11:18AM (#50290446)
This article (which I only skimmed, since it appears to be clanker-written) seems to completely ignore the new world we're in with security vulnerabilities - once the bug is confirmed, it is easy for many people of moderate skill in the art to rediscover in independently with AI assistance. The work the independent researcher who confirmed it / released an exploit did could have been done by many people - and probably was, including by members of the blackhat community. The fine details of the vulnerability are no longer crown jewels, just some rough details are enough
Re:Using AI to reverse engineer hardware on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:45AM (#50168141)
Yes they'd have lost - Russia and China would have nuked them to glass too - the only way to win the nuke game at that point was not to play.

Nukes were an option in WW2 because only one side had them

EMF Camp in the UK is looking at this and doing an experiment: The same badge back with most of the electronics on it, the same battery, and a swappable front plate to give some variation and new functionality. The badge is intended to last 3 events (6 years) and has thus far done 2 events.

We're also hoping the expansion connector might be used by other boards - i2c, 4 fast gpios, 5 slow gpios/pwms, 700ma of 3.3 power. A standard similar to SAO for identification via i2c flash

I had not entirely dissimilar thoughts, though I was thinking of static meshes. As mentioned in the article though, many of these people have very, very little reading or writing skills
Search youtube for drivers talking about thus from their personal experiences. There are hundreds of horror stories there to get you started. There have been websites dedicated to collecting such stories, though several have been lawyered to death.
Re:Could psilocybin be the key to treating anorexia? on Thursday August 06, 2026 @01:35PM (#49199791)
Why has the stereotype of the coked-out stock trader or ketamine addicted delusional billionaire not held the same place in popular culture? Vagely functional coke heads are very, very common in certain circles

Just about all common psychological medication (by which I mean antidepressants, antipsychotics, ADHD meds, etc) have a pretty weakly measurable effect and effectiveness. If you take them, your symptoms might improve. In some casesthey'll get a lot worse. In many cases it will have no effect on your symptoms. There are lots of side effects.

What's the difference here?

Yet we still have tobacco and vape companies
In the US, there's a government shooting people in the streets, with jackbooted thugs operating with impunity in multiple cities, a leader who's started a war to try to drown our discussion of his pedophile tendencies, the highest court int he land has become nakedly partisan (and openly for sale), yet people are mad about the price of gas.

What an outsider thinks people should be mad about, and what they're actually mad about, are often two different things

I'd say instead that we value the commons and don't like companies making money by externalising all their problems to the general public.

If company Foo leaks my personal data, I suffer, they don't, so without regulation there's no reason for them to invest in protecting it. Same with pollution and similar

Re:CVE-2026-31431: Copy Fail vs. rootless containers on Thursday May 07, 2026 @07:07AM (#48047962)
For encrypted disks, you've now got high-performance data shuffling between userspace and kernel space - a massive new attack surface
The thing with a jury is that there are motivated experts on both sides explaining the technical details in a (hopefully) easy to understand way, a judge to help ensure fair play, and an appeals process as an escape valve.

Where are any of those safety measures here?

Re:LinkedIn locks your GDPR rights behind a paywall on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @12:33PM (#48024828)
You have a right under the GDPR to get a copy of all data associated with you PII data. Not just your PII data, but every table where PII is a field, or is transitively joinable. If they can provide somebody else something with your name associated with it, they have to provide it to you
Re:GameStop makes $55.5B takeover offer for eBay on Monday May 04, 2026 @06:46AM (#48006972)
Stock is worth exactly what people will pay for it. Ebay share holders get to vote to accept or reject this deal
Nearly a decade old story now
He can apply to the court for special permission - and probably use ADA to guide permission

It's a fraction of the energy released when an unlit fire cracker is dropped an inch. Basically unmeasurable
Re:Lost Doctor Who Episodes Found on Friday March 13, 2026 @01:10PM (#47367029)
People have been making the same complaint about Dr Who for at least 40 years, couched in the language of the day. Same with Star Trek.
The phrase "the key insight" now sets my teeth on edge due to how often it appears in LLM writing
Nothing unites a group like a common enemy. If it does fall apart into civil war, expect past and random terrorism for years

I don't think any commercial entity can be trusted to break the law on behalf of customers who only pay a small fee each
Any chance of pushing it to GitHub? My swift knowledge could be written out on an oversized beer coaster currently, so I'm still collecting useful snippets
Re:Indefinite Book Club Hiatus on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @04:43AM (#47245220)
There are plenty of examples of AI being successfully used to emulated the email / messaging style of a specific individual already known to the target, for spear fishing attacks, and fake video and audio of family members tricking people. I think you're substantially underestimating the peak ability of AI these days
Re:Circle Games (2019) on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @04:31AM (#47245124)
Plausible but lacks suggested experiments or predictions. Seems testable in principle though, in both human and animal models
Humans also write endless amounts of convincing bullshit, and have done since time immemorial. False papers and faked results have been a growing scourge in academia before LLMs were a thing, and that's just counting the intentional fraud - the reproducibility crisis in science, especially medical and psychological science, affects even the best designed and well intentioned of studies.

Humans also make mistakes and assumptions while reverse engineering, so it will always need more engineers to go through the results, test things

Re:Shut Up: Comment Blocker on Thursday February 12, 2026 @06:40PM (#46996879)
You have to be careful when you edit comments - you can be seen as editorialising, which can lose you protection against being liable for defamation in some jurisdictions. Probably not a huge issue for a small website, but now risk than I'd like to take
Found to be illegal when? 3 decades after they've done their damage?
Re:TikTok is tracking you, even if you don't use the app on Thursday February 12, 2026 @12:59PM (#46992435)
There's plenty of evidence that many people are not making rational and informed decisions due to advertising practices. That is absolutely being forced into things
