And many modern wheats would not grow well without modern fertilization practices and could be more prone to disease and damage because of it.
Sure we can go to Mars, on a one way trip. I have yet to see any feasible plan to bring anyone back.
And you can claim we can make self-sustaining environments all you want, but people have been making such claims for decades and every attempt has failed horribly, so im going to go with it is still impossible until proven otherwise.
But it isn't currently a difficult task, it is a literally impossible task with current knowledge and understanding.
Once we can make a human-sustaining bubble on Earth, then maybe it would be worth trying to go for Mars. Right now claiming we can go to Mars and either return or live there is just as feasible as us going to and living at Alpha Centauri. It is pure sci-fi. Im closer to getting my legs replaced with robot legs that can outrun Usain Bolt than anybody is to colonizing another planet. Or building a secret base at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.
I don't know why we are even discussing people on Mars, we can't even make a self-sustaining biodome on Earth, how are we suppose to do that on another planet? Atleast a moonbase idea is potentially close enough and low enough gravity that people could potentially leave, receive supplies and equipment, or even have more people sent to help within a realistic timespan. What does Mars bring you? Less sunlight, an abrasive and harsh environment, 1 year+ for emergency supplies, and likely zero ability to actually leave Mars again.
Anyone who is trying to sell a Mars base is either ignorant, a moron, a massive grifter, or all of the above.
I think for most people it would be if they can they afford a 20 year advance on electricity costs all at once. That is a lot of money if you have more pressing needs, but if you got that money sitting around then yea of course it is a good investment.
The problem is many departments profit off being able to pull people over for bs reasons so they can try and catch them for other crimes. False positives gives them additional reasons to pull people over and find drugs or probation violations which is the bread and butter of many police department's and court's funding.
Works of fiction borrow heavily from real life and writer's perspersonal experiences. Very rarely does fiction garner notice when it is completely divorsed from the reality and experiences and questions of most people's lives. It is good at showing other people's and idealogocal perspectives without bringing as many preconceptions as a straight copy from real life often would.
No, but there is a lot of potential for large structures to act like an accidental antenna and/or receive low level voltages from the environment or other equipment.
Likely won't matter in most cases, but there could be a few disasters waiting around.
Because certainly nobody has tried that before!
Im not sure she would act any different without social media, she and everyone else like het would just be a bit worse at it using gossip and beauty magazines instead of video tutorials.
The articles headline seems partially refuted by the article that says they had used them atleast once, not that they use them consistently.
But also of course they use it more than other demographs, it is the new thing and heavily marketed and promoted. It is also funny to them when they can take a picture of their homework and provide answers in seconds, even if they don't do that regularly they would have tried it atleast once just to see what happens.
I actively avoid AI and still get shoehorned in to using it, usually because ai broke most search engines with slop.
Technically every item displays requirements and crafting time, but most human players will just eyeball production rates until they start trying to build larger scale factories that you can't easily jerry-rig fixes onto.
Possibly there is a lack of item-throughput figures for belts and stuff though.
Nevada also has the geology and part of a repository built already for nuclear waste. But Las Vegas controls the state and so those empty holes sit unused.
But traditionally housing was also pretty cheap and only select few properties in the right areas gained any significant value over time. Now rentseekers are and have bought up significant amounts of housing and drove both housing and land values up far faster than the low end of wages.
And you think those rights just popped out of the ground and were freely given to everybody and always existed? Your rights don't even match the rights of your neighboring countries, and don't match the rights people had in the past in the same physical place you live in now.
Why do you have rights and privleges that other people don't use?
The alternative is civil uprising and violence, the same as many other demographs and groups of people throughout history have caused because their government and society decided to ignore their demands.
It is in lifetime medical care costs and there have been a few studies in Europe. The majority of medical costs is for age related care that grows exponentially with age, and smoking cuts decades off their life. Most smokers die before they get lung cancer, when they do it rarely results in surgery because they smoke, and it is easier to give a younger person chemo than and older person.
Also have you seen the kind of medication regimes that most 90 year olds take? Many of them take as many pills in a week as a 60 year old has took over the last decade or more.
My state has a few cities that allow shroom sales inside of it, usually in weed dispenseries.
Smoking ironically saves in medical costs because people die before getting into real expensive age related care, and also smoking disqualifies you from a large number of medical procedures that would otherwise be given. Keeping a relatively healthy 90 year old alive for 2 more years costs significantly more than keeping an unhealthy 60 year old smoker alive 10 more years before they have a heart attack or stroke.
Why not? What exactly is wrong with living their way of life?
Hell they might end up one of the largest factions in the US because they still have decent birthrates unlike every other demograph.
Minimum speed requirement on most highways is 45 MPH regardless of vehicle type or licenses. You can't walk or ride a bike or moped down a highway either.
If you are conspiracy minded, their real concern might be that they don't have the ability to easily compromise the car's security with a back door. Most all US cars made in the last 20 years can be disabled remotely, every car that hasn't been hacked up in the past 10 years can not only be disabled remotely but critical functions can be changed while in operation because everything is fly-by-wire and the entire system is interconnected with the infotainment system which has GPS, cellphone, bluetooth connections, and very shortly interior cameras.
Just because the plastic door panels don't rust doesn't mean the metal frame underneath isn't.
Theoretically yes, but in practice if you tell your boss to screw off multiple times a year because they don't want to spend the money to fix the base problem, you will be replaced or fired.
In some industries that is how they keep costs low while pretending they are being safe. They have alarms or procedures that say something is bad or wrong, but fixing some problems costs more money than it saves so they want them to be ignored, and managers will get angry and admonish you or eventually fire you if you keep following procedure and stopping to check problems. So eventually they build a team of people essentially trained to ignore problems. Which is why many oil pipelines still use ancient and unreliable leak detectors, they know those systems are unreliable and the operators will get alarm fatigue from the 200 false alarms, and that way they also ignore when a real problem happens, and worse case for the company they scapegoat the operator. They don't care that 2,000 gallons of oil leaked into the wilderness and poisoned the land if it would cost 2,000+ gallons of oil profit to shut down and repair the leak. They have a financial interest to not fix it.
You will catch political sub bans for posting in and/or joining all sorts of other political subs, no matter what you actually said. I got more than a few from the exact opposite end of the political spectrum. All the political subs have been bought and paid for by propagandists for atleast a decade now. And having to either catching more random bans or having to self-censor myself, I left.
Hell there were even multiple political sub moderator purges that were right out in the open. Entire mod lists changing over night in multiple subs even way back.
The Lower Decks was good as a love letter to older fans, I do recommend that. But both Discovery and Academy were horrendous and I regret the time spent. Picard had a few good episodes and it was nice to see the old crew but was not great.
Stranger New Worlds had some good things and wasn't a butcher job but not anything to write home about in my opinion.
But the labor costs of manufacturing are still tiny compared to material costs. If labor was free for European manufacturing that would only drop the price a token amount, not the £10,000+ that Chinese autos have over current cars.
If it truly went to everybody to me it is just government paying dividends to the people. Which I think is far preferable and useful compared to corporate bailouts and tax cuts and most other allocations. We gave money to people during covid and it wasn't catastrophic.
To me this just reads like how I imagine people and the Luddites thought about automated looms. At first they were excited, thinking about the cheap and abundant cloth they put in plenty of work to make automated looms work flawlessly, until they start getting replaced. But they made excuses that they always need someone who knows more than "put cloth on spool, press button" to run these factories and that skilled people will always be needed. But slowly and surely the factory went towards quantity and not quality, and since quantity was done regardless why pay for the skilled and knowledgeable workers? And soon nobody made good money making cloth except the factory owner, the cloth was shit, and the people who built it all left with nothing but memories of once being valuable.
What you are describing would be straight up treason. The fact that treason charges are almost never laid upon anyone shows it is a farce.
