Wild times. If ever we were living in a Scifi novel, events like this would be evidence of that. Let's hope the frontier labs' investments in the alignment problem works.

“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.” ― Dr. Ian Malcolm, Jurassic Park

and that people still have money to spend
Or, maybe, the AI companies making claims about increased productivity due to their models are wrong (in most cases)?
Did you check with the end user as to how well its actually working? My prior company is doing this and their platform has gone to latency/bug hell.
have you met some of the upper management at companies?

nevermind that. you know companies like Palantir and Flock exist, each with hundreds or thousands of employees?

There's plenty of sociopathy and apathy to go around.

Re:Amazon Is Gutting Its AI Division After Sustained Failure on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @03:33PM (#50264544)
Exact same experience.

Amazons interviews were so formulaic and it’s interviewers so robotic it was almost sickening.

Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @03:31PM (#50264515)
You can keep your job without going balls-to-the-wall “productive”.
Re:The Mythical Man-Month in the Age of AI on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:35PM (#50262749)
This situation sounds very similar to mine.

I'm also like: why would you give the execs more productivity for no additional pay? The puritanical love of work and individualistic competitiveness in the US is so counterproductive to any sort of gains in livelihood for the average person.

risking security on my smart tv... security of my usage data... that could be viewed and abused by a third-party...

Wait a sec, the tv companies already do this.

Guess I don't care.

The terms for this seem kind of not great tbh, unless you have been there for like multiple decades, especially in this job market.

I probably wouldn't take this and instead devote more of my time to practicing for and collecting interviews during the equivalent time period with the hopes of keeping my job at the end.

I struggle with this mentality as well. Just seems very unfair. I guess life isn't fair though, and maybe I should be more grateful for having this as a problem at all.
Why are you upset its this way elsewhere? Those kind of working conditions are much more favorable don't you think? Why would you want to work 60 hour weeks?

Just study and get another job.

yes, thats the point

is this not a good innovation?

Nah thats Walmart
Re:How employment is changing at Anthropic on Monday October 19, 2026 @01:50PM (#50155535)
awesome, when do the leetcode interviews go away?
Its nice to know others feel this way. I do feel some kind of despair when I think about the kind of work I used to do even just a year ago compared to now. A coworker of mine took FMLA recently to figure out what they want to do next because they no longer feel even the slightest fulfillment from swe.

At least the Methane curve isn't accelerating? I think? Guess we need a derivative graph to really tell.

Praying the Clathrate gun hypothesis isn't applicable.

you can go to a meetup and not drink, nor smoke, nor hit on people?

If you're hit on yourself, politely decline, and strike up a different topic of conversation.

Most of the meetups I attend are not "glorified pickup activities".

There are also plenty of nerdy meetups. Some of the biggest nerds I know I've met through board game and trivia meetups.

Re:US Suspends Visa Program for Tech Firms Including Microsoft on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:47PM (#50008214)
None of the above companies have what I would consider to be high salaries relative to their tech peers.

He doesn't look a day over 90!
I dont think it has as much to do with that as it does rising expectations from leadership to just ship MORE.

MORE MORE MORE like AI has given executives an excuse to ratchet up performance expectations by at least 3x (as in my company) up to 10x for certain start ups I've heard.

There's literally not enough time for a human to do all the activities around quality they were doing even a year ago.

Re:We're working on a new RuneScape MMO on Monday October 05, 2026 @04:55PM (#49970590)
I came back to RS a couple years ago and made macros to run on my account by clicking the screen at specific coordinates to do some of this.

I know there's a bot problem but I only did it for my one paid account - purely for the reasons you described because otherwise I'd never get to an upper level account.

So when do we get to shutting down the internet?
Re:What Meta Got Right with Muse on Monday October 05, 2026 @01:52PM (#49968089)
My god the astroturfing for this is getting out of hand.
Re:What Meta Got Right with Muse on Monday October 05, 2026 @01:37PM (#49967902)
So the internet _is_ dead.
