> A working group of 80 uneducated idiots
This is why people hate IT nerds.
Vi sitter här i venten och spelar lite DotA
> This is such a far fetched/reactionary comment, that it's frankly surprising it hasn't been flagged.
"This is such a wrong thing to say that I'm surprised you haven't received reprisal for it"
Proving his point in real time
> It doesn't appear to have a concept of time or reconciliation (both issues we're having at work). A memory might be relevant for a week or a month, but it might no longer matter after that ie "we're migrating systems so keep <thing> in mind"--that doesn't matter after the migration is complete.
It doesn't even understand when its current context isn't...
See the whole issue of refining a concept, removing a few points or notions, and it will write a paragraph why a point that isn't in the text anymore when no version a human will read ever had that point in it.
One thing I despise about ChatGPT is how it goes on 4 paragraph tangents about how slight details are wrong, and then always ends with a paragraph of bolded fucking text rephrasing some statement in my original question, but with a huge amount of hedging to exclude minute counterexamples.
> We cannot possibly expect all parents to take proper care of their kids. This has never been the case and never will. That's why we have schools and other institutions that oversee our growth within society.
From both someone involved in raising kids as well as someone who knows a lot of teachers: none of the involved parties want that. Schools are at best for teaching, but never for raising.
You're missing my point. Shortage and conflict is the
default. It's not a fault unique to capitalism, and to say that it's its fault is missing the mark.
I'm not saying it's an ought situation or even an is situation; it's that I disagree with his diagnosis of what causes it.
> Capitalism has defined ‘health’ itself as a capacity to submit oneself to labor
People keep mindlessly saying this but I have never seen evidence for it. Before money was ever invented the idea was already there that if you're healthy you can sustain yourself. All 'capitalism' did was saying "and most people nowadays perform abstract services in trade for an abstraction of a promise of a pinky swear saying "if you trade this pinky swear to me you'll get some food".
It's not 'economic systems that are fundamentally hostile to bodies that cannot produce consistently', it's a fundamental reality of life. Either you are capable of getting enough food for you and your family, either directly by farming, gathering or hunting, or you are not.
> Well not everyone has the privilege to buy new books, especially course-mandated books that the professor "coincidentally" wrote and costs hundreds of dollars.
Do you even understand what you sound like?
"Writing in something you own is vandalism because poor people".
We could also fit more people in if you crushed everyone, dehydrated them and stored they remains in huge compressed cubes. Efficiency is not all we want
> The actual cost is going to drop 99% in ~4 years.
And fusion power is just 2 decades into the future!
So many China shills running interference and whataboutism...
"Hey guys, good news! You will all be made redundant by AI and we, some intellectual elite who somehow think we're not going to be affected by AI think you're going to be happy about it!"
\> if you work with a country's military use of violence against you is Ok
Jesus christ you guys are in a fucking bubble
Today it's Trump, yesterday it was something else. Tomorrow it'll be a third thing.
We've had this discourse happen again and again over the last... Christ, 20 years fuck me.
At some point people have to start realizing "oh wait, maybe the current situation isn't unique and people have felt like this since forever".
> No, it works not worse, but better.
"Is it me who is wrong? No, it's everyone else!"
I really want to like Ruby; it's my Smalltalk-lite for small projects, because it's easier to run and get going than spinning up VMs. However, it's retarded shit like this drama that makes me move away from languages.
I found that the drivers I had were no longer compatible with the newer kernels. After upgrading to newer drivers it was able to offload again.
> Well, for a time greek city states did fight pretty much like this. Small armies of hoplites were raised outside harvest season, went out, fought almost show-battles with very few casualties, and tribute changed hands based on the results. Everyone went home for the harvest.
This is a view held by a small group, but is in no way the accepted view of it for historians. See the link for a blogpost of a military historian talking about the orthodox and heterodox schools of thought on this.

Totally! I'm sick of not being able to see what tools they use. In fact, I feel that we should also start tagging devs that use an IDE instead of properly coding games in notepad.
I'll have to try projects I guess, but I just want to sometimes ask questions without it bringing up shit I asked about in the past which isn't relevant to what I'm asking this time.
In online Claude I often use incognito mode precisely because I don't want results to be influenced by what we talked about earlier. It's getting rather annoying to be honest.
While I'm on the fence about LLMs there's something funny about seeing an industry of technologists tear their own hair out about how technology is destroying their jobs. We're the industry of "we'll automate your job away". Why are we so indignant when we do it to ourselves...
Still a vacuum so the same heat dissipation issues, adding to it that the lunar dust makes solar panels less usable, and the lunar surface on the solar side gets really hot.
My concern isn't really clarity of intention, but that 'allowlisting' just doesn't flow as well when reading as whitelisting does.
