Literally the entire population of New Jersey would revolt. Everyone's doing a minimum of 10 over unless there's traffic.

Luna 9 used an airbag system, not a soft landing system.
I don't think most TSA employees are vets... I'm a veteran and it's relatively easy to identify a fellow vet most of the time.
Half the point of special forces is to be covert, which is made hard when your transportation is a giant rocket streaking through the suborbital zone.
At the core, it's all military technology. Canned food was invented for Napoleon's Grand Armee.
Some SUVs qualify as trucks under the definitions written into the law.
Most fuel mixes for rockets are just Kerosene and Liquid Oxygen, at least in the USA. Seems like most of the next generation are aiming for Methane and LOX.

Burning plastic incompletely would most likely produce more noxious stuff than Kerolox or Methalox engines. Maybe on par with existing Solid Rockets or Hypergolics.

Are they wrong? I would say they're right, oil is in fact vital to global security.
Re:The Great Cousin Decline on Thursday December 21, 2023 @08:03AM (#38719906)
That's absurdly cheap... I pay about $900/mo per child.
Color me skeptical... people have been drinking for thousands of years. I would be terribly surprised if moderate drinking had a statistically significant effect.

Either way, this is an irresponsible recommendation at a time when birthrates among native populations are falling precipitously. Adding yet another mental/physical hurdle to having kids is the wrong thing to do. Shit, next generation in South Korea will be 40% the size of the current generation with the way things are going.

They're pretty much in every recently renovated housing unit... not just rich people houses.

Jets don’t use leaded aviation gas.
That seems absurd. People often have no idea that a product would be useful or desirable beforehand. Perhaps our current level of consumer choice is somewhat absurd, but that brings you to a Soviet style system.
>Can't pay your rent? That's a crime, and the sheriff will be knocking on your door in 30 days.

What on Earth are you talking about? There was an emergency order during COVID that prevented anyone from being evicted for about two years. A ton of landlords got absolutely screwed because their tenants stopped paying rent and could not be evicted by any means.

I've just taken to applying Cosmoline to the underside of my truck each summer.

Meanwhile my son is almost 3 and already approaching a size where he legally only needs a booster seat.
I mean if you start licking it or chewing it you might, but normal usage just wash your hands afterward and you're fine.

We don’t live to make the line go up - we make the line go up that we might live. What is in an extra half percentage point in the GDP that’s worth taking away one of life’s joys from people?
Re:Dear Red Hat: Are you dumb? on Thursday June 22, 2023 @04:16PM (#36438250)
>Please, dear Red Hat, just give me a DigitalOcean VM (or something comparable) that costs a few dollars more and has automatic RHEL licensing. Make deals with the VM providers, work something out.

We've tried to make deals with RH in the past, but they will only let us sell RHEL VMs with licenses if it's running on a RHEL hypervisor... which none of our platform is using at all.

And that is to some degree also fair. Both sides have a point in this discussion.

The judiciary doesn't bring allegations... that's they adjudicate them. The DoJ or similar has to bring them.
>I was on a wedding in NYC last summer. One of the guests I talked to was a junior dev. He was making 120k/y. He had to flat share. With 120k?

Ok well the problem there is he's living in the most expensive place he possibly could. Live in the suburbs and you won't have to share a flat on $120k.

Re:Sperm counts worldwide are plummeting faster than we thought on Thursday December 01, 2022 @10:21AM (#33817392)
Interesting. Our first took about 4 or 5 months? I think my wife stopped her birth control at the end of July and we conceived in December. Our second took 2 months, my wife stopped her birth control in September and we conceived in November. We're both in our mid-30s.

Anecdotally, my wife's sister and her husband have been trying for almost a year? And they've had one miscarriage and nothing else.

It's almost as if the framers of the Constitution knew what they were doing when they created a decentralized federalized system and we've screwed it up pretty badly by centralizing power in the Federal Government.
But if I train my own neural network inside my skull using some artist's style, that's ok?

Either a style is copyrightable or it's not. If it's not, then I can't see any argument that you can't use it yourself or by proxy.

Certainly something is lost by removing scarcity... at the same time, once that scarcity is gone, it can't be restored short of civilizational collapse. There's no way to put the streaming genie back in the bottle, nor the Stable Diffusion genie.

I doubt it. Look at the period from 1920-1960. Extremely entrepreneurial, extremely innovative, and tight immigration controls.

The talent is largely already here.

Those ridiculously long distances in the middle of nowhere are not really well suited for overhead electrical wires.
