The woke left has not. Look at the Map advocacy. Multiple breadtubers(vaush, contrapoints) have defended pedophilia and said the child adult distinction is a false power dynamic. Nevermind drag time story hour.

Tell that to the Romans and the patronage systems.

Loads of people disagree with you and believe it is murder and can quote science to back up their argument.

You also don't have any definition with a clear line when this switch from non human to human happens.

It almost always boils down to "when it's convenient for me"

It's not just about now. Who knows what happens in the future.

Eastern Europe was fractured and weak following World War One. A huge invasion still came twenty years later. This is a game played out in centuries, not 20 years. The future is unpredictable. Russians leaders plan in that world.

If there was a kingdom hundreds of years ago, and every printing press was owned by a church that did not allow itself to be criticized, no one in their right mind would say that kingdom had free speech.

That is the current situation in the west with social media and the woke religion.

To be blunt, you either haven't read cs Lewis or are being intentionally deceitful. Cs Lewis's arguments are explicitly anti-humanist.

Dostoesvsky and lewis changed my life and brought my from a mild agnosticism to traditional Catholicism and my life has never been better.

As someone who has one, only minor traffic violations. And only in certain places (cops not in the northeast generally are not unionized and dont honor them. ) It's not a get out of jail free card like it's being described.
Rules are useless without a policemen capable of enforcing them. They are at best suggestions, if not simple propoganda for domestic consumption. This is made even worse when the supposed policemen break their own rules as well (Kosovo). I say all this as an ardent American nationalist.

States have always existed in a state of anarchy and act as you would expect them.

A blockade and air raids also causes deaths. The literal name for the blockading operations with mines around Japan was Operation Starvation.

Sometimes there are only bad options available. The bomb was the best choice

Would you have an issue if we put "suspected paedophile and open paedophile apologist" in the opening lines for philosophers like Foucault, Sarte and gore vidal? Those are also objective facts.

I would rather have dinner with a antisemite than a paedophile.

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all, By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul; But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."
I have not heard a convincing argument that true right or wrong can exists outside of a universe with a monotheistic God.

Do you believe you morality is more right than a Nazis or a pedophiles?

If so, you need a justification of why your morality is more ultimately correct and truly "good and better." I have not heard a convincing one that ultimately doesn't end in a monotheistic God.

And if not, what are we even doing in this conversation? There can be no moral progress without an objectively better standard that we are attempting to discover.

Yeah, this is the fundamental disagreement. When discussing morality, I'm not talking about what you are. It is a law that overrides all of us, with true right and true wrong. Without a monotheistic God, these don't exist and morality doesn't either.

The morality your discussing is completely different.

1. This view also takes the idea that morality can be reached by reason on faith I am not saying I fully disagree, but even the concept of morality at its core is not rational.

2. It is possible to be religious and do good for the sake of good. Most religious people I know do. I would hope that even if I knew I was going to hell, I would still live the rest of my life on accordance with God's will as it is the right thing to do.

I am not claiming to have perfect vision of this order, but I am asserting that it exists and we have no choice but to sit in it's judgment. We can argue and and discuss about the specifics, but when I and other religious people are discussing morality, that is what we are trying to do. To make our morals and actions more in line with the ultimate objective morality.

I do not mean this as a flame, but I honestly do not understand why a person who believes in subjective morality would even discuss morality at all. If all morality is simply in the eye of the beholder, moral progress is impossible and it is not possible for one view to be superior to another.

What is morality? It is not a physical material phenomenon and it is not scientific, so if it exists it is by definition supernatural or its synonym metaphysical

Once you are discussing the supernatural, you are discussing religion.

Ive read Hitchens, and I am not impressed.

Subjective morality is ultimately simple preferance and ultimately just a battle of wills. I, and most other religious people, do not consider such a "moral order" to be morality at all.

Objective morality, with a judge above all judges who is justice itself, is the only way "justice" and morality mean anything at all.

Reading dostoesvsky brought my back to the church on a spiritual and emotional level, and the Abolition of Man and Mere Christianity bt CS Lewis brought me back on an emotional level.
Catholic priests are less likely than the general population to be predators. You only hear about it because the media Is hostile to the church. School districts across the country have done similar things in terms of cover ups but I don't hear the outage there.
Bishop barron is great, as a practicing catholic strikes a great balance between the more liberal and traditional wings of the church.
Freedom of speech, religion, conscious and the right to bear arms are all vigorously opposed by the modern left. I cna also think of a group of people who the right fight for who the left don't even consider people.
Glad to see people probably over 100 are participating in hacker news.

This is not true. The vast, vast, vast majority of works from the classical world we have were saved by byzantine and western European monks.

I am thankful we the works saved by Muslims, but there has been a gross over reaction where the true source of most of our knowledge of the classical world has been ignored so people can score woke points for praising non western cultures and erasing the contributions of the west and christendom.

Re:A comparison of city building games on Monday January 04, 2021 @01:23PM (#25635649)
I've put a bunch of hours into 3 4 5 and 6. I'd rank them 4 > 6 > 5 > 3. 4 is clearly the best though, everything just seems to hit the perfect balance between simple fun and complexity, and the writing and character rpg elements made me want to play with different play styles. 6 is big, but I find myself getting bored in the middle game. 3 and 5 are just worse than 4 in essentially every way. All are fun though.

Christianity was far more dominant in Mexico and France, but in neither case did it prevent secularists from slaughtering Christians in huge numbers e.g. The cristero war and the war in the Vendee.
The third servile war was hardly successful. They all ended up literally crucified.
Mike Duncan's revolutions podcast section on the French revolution is incredible, even if he has gone off the deep end as of late.

Everything up there is great. I've listen to the history of Rome and the French revolution multiple times. But I am very concerned about his increasing radicalization since doing the Haitian revolution. It's lowering the quality of his work significantly.
