Yes, it does.
Re:Windows 98 Icons are Great (2015) on Sunday January 20, 2019 @02:14PM (#18954934)
Oh man, I miss BeOS. It was one of the two OS's I'd bought back in the day. The other was OpenBSD 3 iirc I have the CD around here somewhere, too.
This is why amazes me. At my home we blow through on average 25 GB a day in gaming, streaming video, other downloads etc. limits like these are terrible. 80 a month? Wtf?!
I doubt the "what we eat" part but not the energy and transportation aspects of it.

We could, in 20 years from the time the efforts were legislated in, phase out most petrol vehicles in exchange for electric and go to nuclear, solar, and hydroelectric for our power needs.

It would work, too.

Re:Unscii – a bitmapped Unicode font for blocky graphics on Sunday November 18, 2018 @02:43AM (#18479304)
I hadn't realized it was even maintained still this decade, or the preceding one. It's latest version is 1.2.1 and released on November 14, 2014... Not exactly up-to-date by some standards but I'm glad it's still around.
Re:Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 iOS app on Tuesday November 13, 2018 @12:07AM (#18438744)
it's just a service

you can run your own easily

just connect to roots

I do this but instead of passwords like `NGIyNzgwMTEyNDczYTIyNjEwYWRhYWZh` I'd use `BatteryHorseStaple33` to the question: Where were you born.

I've never had it blow up in my face with any rep, and I make sure to keep the passwords in an offline (never touches any network) laptop.

Re:Top lawyers beaten by legal AI on Friday October 26, 2018 @11:51AM (#18310363)
Comparing a simple compression algorithm to extensive law research is extremely disingenuous and shows a lack of awareness of what it takes to actually BE competent as a lawyer.
Re:“12 years ago today, I finished writing Hacker News” on Wednesday October 10, 2018 @09:50AM (#18184804)
I dislike them all, except for someone else's comment above about comment reply notifications - which doesn't even have to be active, just a number next to your username at the top when reloading a page.
Having Google on your resumé used to be a big deal but it's becoming a kind of liability in some circles.
I have some colleagues that talk about hardly much else, and it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

It’s irritating and off-putting.

I’d like to reiterate your last point.

Many libraries loan out ebooks!!! It’s very convenient and free.

Re:The quest to save Stephen Hawking's voice on Friday July 27, 2018 @11:37AM (#17626741)
Speech != voice.

One can definitely train to speak better with coaching, but your voice and most specifically your voice “ID” is unique to you. That can’t be changed.

Re:Netflix suffers first massive global outage on Tuesday June 12, 2018 @12:11PM (#17294691)
Believe it or not, a lot of people still use local tv/news for entertainment or information (of local news).

(Near) realtime would be important for emergencies, as rare as they are.

Re:Tesla Was Kicked Off Fatal Crash Probe by NTSB on Thursday April 12, 2018 @12:49PM (#16822705)
Been driving one on long drives regularly the past year and I've never experienced the problems you describe before.
Re:Working on an iPad Pro as my main computer on Tuesday April 03, 2018 @03:40AM (#16742606)
Lightning to usb is the "camera" adapter and I use it on an iPad Pro. It definitely still works
You're sadly misinformed as TRP doesn't promote violence one bit.
Safe to say that "their" identity is still a secret in light of that careless opsec blunder.
iirc, you can set the orientation in the Watch settings. The OS and software should adjust.
Re:What Life Looks Like When Night Lasts for Days on Saturday January 27, 2018 @02:58PM (#16247803)
You need proper blackout curtains where the fabric is in direct contact with the framing of the window. Typically curtains have a lot of space between the fabric and the frame/glass so you'll get a lot of light coming in.
Could have been a number of things - most likely culprit I've seen is that it was left exposed to the internet, ssh most likely, and the default password wasn't changed.
Being conservative has nothing to do with it. The area of NY I live in right now is extremely conservative and there are dozens of solar panel installations from Apex Solar on homes and businesses.
iOS has supported keyboards for a very long time. right back to when they first sold their 30-pin to USB "camera" adapter. You could definitely plug in a keyboard and use it.
Re:The Great American Single-Family Home Problem on Friday December 01, 2017 @10:39PM (#15829993)
> Try telling the average family that their lifestyle is unsustainable and unfairly subsidized by others.

Well the fact remains that it does not happen. When I purchased my home in 2003 I received no tax credits, support from the government, bonuses, or a pat on the back. I put 20% down after saving up everything I could for a solid 5 years after landing a great job after college, which again wasn't subsidized or had grants for.

No one else does this but me and the ridiculous sense of entitlement or attitude of it being "unfair" that someone else can't afford it really stems from a deeper issue.

Re:Americans Are Receiving Unordered Parcels from E-Criminals on Tuesday November 28, 2017 @11:47PM (#15804645)
No. It would be solved if people could run a whitelist that was directly tied to your address book, and any address you sent email TO would automatically be added to this address book/whitelist.

I wish mail could operate on a similar method

there's also https://mbasic.facebook.com if we're going to talk about light versions of websites.
Re:Ask HN: What tech stack is in demand, and why? on Monday November 13, 2017 @02:17PM (#15689253)
I've taken to learning more about both languages so I can work at the banks that use these. Job stability is #1 for me and if it's at a "dead end" job in tech, at this point I don't see a risk as long as my relevant skills are kept reasonably up to date on the side job/home lab.
Re:Standalone Signal Desktop on Tuesday October 31, 2017 @05:42PM (#15596851)
.NET is included with Windows and can't be removed.
Re:Socially Engineering Myself into High Security Facilities on Friday October 20, 2017 @01:19PM (#15517463)
Firefox's Reader view does the same.
Re:Facebook Lies on Tuesday October 03, 2017 @09:41AM (#15392313)
There used to be a service like this for facebook and twitter, then those two services blocked them from doing so.

Which was sad, but it ultimately worked well for everyone who ended up using it before the ban. It would untag you from photos, delete your comments, wall posts, photos, information, change your name, and issue a deletion after changing your password (and emailing that to you).
