What's the point of using it without reasoning? Isn't that what Luna's for?
Maybe it's doing a really good job, but the original code was just held together with scotch tape.
Re:Claude Haiku 5.5 on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:52PM (#49999856)
They changed this from earlier today... It's still very confusing.
Re:Opus 5.5 is good at explainer videos on Thursday September 24, 2026 @05:38PM (#49837060)
I've been experimenting with AI video generation beyond raw video gen for some time now. Opus 4.5 was the first tool I tried last year, and it was okay...

Fast forward a few months, and Opus 5.5 is now running my entire video production pipeline. This model is leaps and bounds ahead of the previous model.

I can generate a complete 5-minute explainer video on my MacBook Air M4 in about five minutes from a single prompt, using the Gemini TTS API and MiniMax H3 Max for b-roll. It creates thumbnails and titles, handles the entire process, and automatically uploads the result via the YouTube API—all powered by a Claude Code plugin. (youtube.com/@ctrlaltexplain for those interested).

Why do they need to? For search, instant models are more important and fit the use case better.

Pro models are mainly for coding agent work; it doesn't necessarily make them any money.

Re:New Mac mini, featuring M6 and M5 Pro on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @12:02PM (#49436317)
Yeah the era of the personal computer is over.

Companies will prioritize components for cloud computing and lease us thin clients...

Re:OpenAI API Is Down on Thursday July 23, 2026 @02:02PM (#49025691)
No it's microsoft
I guess we should be thankful that OpenAI is so open about this kind of stuff...
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026) on Monday May 11, 2026 @11:14AM (#48096125)
I'm working on a daily word puzzle game called Hinted. Wordle for people with half a brain. Streaks that are forgiving and a way to track your friend's progress. https://hintedgame.com
Re:I'm Scared About Biological Computing on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @04:08PM (#48027798)
LLMs have awareness for the time they are spawned into memory. But it's very limited, think about if you could use your brain to think, but only after someone asked you a question. After you think the answer, then you are brain dead (unconscious) until another question is asked.
Re:Apple introduces the new MacBook Air with M5 on Tuesday March 03, 2026 @01:11PM (#47236334)
What I actually like about Apple products is the heft. They feel premium and the heaviness contributes a lot to the premium feel.

I tried a ThinkPad X1 Carbon as well, it felt like a toy.

This is how open source wins
Re:Digg public beta is live on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @06:56PM (#46625834)
I use to enjoy diggnation, but now every episode is about them claiming not to be alcoholics when they clearly are.
Re:Gemini 3 Pro Model Card on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @12:11PM (#45982030)
nice numbers, but what does this actually mean?

What does this model do that others can't already.

Re:Steam Frame on Wednesday November 12, 2025 @04:21PM (#45906903)
Valve just defeated Meta and Xbox in one go. nice.
Re:TIC-80 – Tiny Computer on Thursday September 18, 2025 @06:27PM (#45295795)
Is there any way to edit programs in my own editor?

I can't work with these blocky fonts.

Re:Show HN: I created a small 2D game about an ant on Thursday September 18, 2025 @06:25PM (#45295773)
It must be a slow news day.
Some of them, but that's changing soon.
You bought the hunk of metal and glass, but you didn't buy the app store servers, the software has a legal agreement and you sign that.

If you don't agree, don't sign it.

Re:Gemini-2.5-pro-preview-06-05 on Thursday June 05, 2025 @02:40PM (#44194502)
These api models are for developers. Gemini is for consumers.
It's Apple's phone, they can do what they want.
Re:OpenAI to buy AI startup from Jony Ive on Wednesday May 21, 2025 @03:44PM (#44055468)
A solution looking for a problem. We already have devices which can access AI with ease. I don't need your proprietary data farming apis in the OS level...
Just as any muscle gets weaker the less you use it, same goes for intelligence.
Re:Apple Debuts iPhone 16e on Wednesday February 19, 2025 @11:22AM (#43103878)
Apple has fallen off in every product category.
Re:OpenAI O3-Mini on Friday January 31, 2025 @03:19PM (#42891441)
The naming convention is so messed up. o1, o3-mini (no o2, no o3???)
Very interesting. How can we get rich from this?
Re:M4 MacBook Pro on Wednesday October 30, 2024 @12:30PM (#41997064)
This is how it feels to own a desktop computer.
Re:Valve New Employee Handbook (2012) [pdf] on Friday August 23, 2024 @12:17PM (#41330281)
Page 20 has an employee with a HL3 shirt. It really is one of the most tragic tales in gaming history.

Half-Life Alyx only being available on VR was the final nail in the coffin. I will never play it.

So basically the model took user data and used it as training data in realtime? Big if true.
Re:New iPad Pro with M4 chip and Apple Pencil Pro on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @12:48PM (#40288147)
What do people even use iPads for?
