They did not. Trump won the electoral college, but failed to obtain 50% or more of the popular vote both times.

Not sure why this is downvoted. The authors themselves note that parenthood could be a catalyst for the change at 30-- in previous centuries, when parenthood happened much earlier, why could it not affect the brain's timeline? This study is simply descriptive of a particular dataset, a collection of snapshots at a particular time and place. Certainly the brain is elastic and responsive to external conditions.

What I noticed is that the 4000 samples are all from England and the U.S. Replicating this study with a greater geographical and socio-cultural diversity would be very useful in supporting or expanding these results.

>While it is hard to quantify the prevalence of the AI-generated images, Alenichev and others say their use is on the rise, driven by concerns over consent and cost.

Although I agree that using AI-generated poverty porn is repulsive on many levels, I think there is a valid consent and privacy issue if using actual photos of real people in these circumstances.

A picture of a real person, especially a child who is being victimized by poverty and/or abuse is now being victimized twice.

In this case, AI could be used judiciously to alter the persons face/body and other identifiers to protect their identity, in the same way that print journalism changes names and other identifiers in text. I think this would be ethical as long as properly marked as having been altered and why.

Of course this does not address the motives of the company behind the ad, but it would at least provide increased transparency and privacy protections.

I'd argue the insurance companies prefer to collect premiums and not treat people.
They actually do define this in the study, section 2.2 Assessment of coffee consumption.
I reread Ursula K LeGuin's Earthsea Trilogy during a really difficult time in my life. I hadn't read them since I was a teenager. They are simple to read, but deep, with themes of regret and hopelessness but also perseverance and grace. I find her attitude toward her characters to be both brutally honest and compassionate. I think I got more out of reading these books as an adult at that time, although they were among my favorite books as a kid.

Maybe in large urban areas, and if you can afford insurance at all. In rural areas, even smaller urban areas, there are few physicians, long waits and not enough facilities. [https://www.krqe.com/health/new-mexico-needs-hundreds-of-hea...]

As a former US teacher who gained certification in two states, I suggest that if you are also US-based, talk to the board of education licensing department for the particular state you are planning to teach in. They can explain the specific requirements for teaching the subject matter that interests you.

Public schools are desperate for teachers. As long as the college/university holds accreditation, no one will care which one you choose, what matters is credits in various areas and the major/minor. Some states have programs to allow you to complete your certification requirements while teaching, but every state is different. Again, the state board licensing dept is the place to get these questions answered.

Finally as a former middle school teacher, I commend you. Our nations kid's really need caring people with real-world experience to bring that expertise and passion to the classroom. Good luck!

I use Bluetooth earphones daily with my desktop running manjaro KDE. the only problems I have encountered relate to the hardwsre, not linux.
In New Mexico we have a non-profit staffed by volunteers trained in listening. It is not a suicide hotline exactly, they welcome anyone who feels like they need to talk. It's anonymous. I had several friends who volunteered there some years back; they'd get calls from old people who were lonely, stressed out students, all kinds of people. I don't think you have to be New Mexican to call. http://www.agoracares.org/ 505-277-3013 855-505-4505

Why is the fault even the Post's? The Dingell family (or Dingell himself) decided to sell the piece to the Post, a revenue-generating newspaper that uses a paywall. They had many other options. They probably could have gotten another senator to read it into the Federal Register, where it would have been available to all. But they made their choice.
Qwant, Startpage, DuckDuckGo.... You are not limited to google. If they are annoying you, leave.
You still have to buy the seeds; however, once you do they belong to you to plant, create your own stockpile, share with others, crossbreed or use selective methods to create a better strain for your specific environment/needs...

The threat of GMO is not in direct health effects, it's in corporate control of the food chain.

Indeed, as a US citizen it is obvious this policy will soon be expanded to everyone.

Re:Empathy makes us immoral, says a Yale psychologist on Sunday July 09, 2017 @09:33AM (#14729655)
"When we rely on empathy to make moral decisions, he says, we end up prioritizing the person whose suffering we can easily relate to over that of any number of others who seem more distant."

This article is not really discussing empathy, but rather limited or immature empathy, and sentimentalism. True empathy embraces not just the "victim", but also the perpetrator, bystanders, and others who might be affected. True empathy is about relating to those that are not easy to relate to.

The complete article is paywalled, but what is available gives no citation. I could find no recent pesticides report on the EU website.

I am pro-organics, but I question the veracity of the telegraph's article. At the least, I think this post should be linked to the actual EU report, if one does exist.
