tell me how NK woould steal 6B, or any money, with a virtual hack, from a bank. not by going in there guns blazing.

the crypto consumer base is veeeery different than durint Mt. Gox.

during Mt. Gox it felt like nerds and insiders, nowadays boomer dads are into crypto.

my point being that i don't agree with "the remaining people are naturally more risk tolerant", as there are way more 'new' people.

Re:Google AI gets cagey when asked who won the 2020 elections on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @06:05PM (#50281583)
agree on the general points, but what i take from this is that you gave an AI access to the whole freaking filesystem?
Re:Oldest GUI application that still runs on Windows 11 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @02:32AM (#50255341)
not sure if "can't say that X is the best if you haven't personally lived through every previous iteration" is an already established logical fallacy, but damn does it fall apart quickly.
Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:29PM (#50246558)
i think you and the previous person both approach it from a different angle than me. haven't played minecraft in a while and as a kid i used to try to build buildings i knew, and then play minecraft with them as my base. so go hunting, start farming, search for diamonds etc.

sh3d removes the whole game-aspect and acts as a room planning tool, which is of course also neat, but i have no need for it. i also don't need to navigate my home as a visitor in a software, as i can just navigate it in meatspace.

but, if or when i move, i think i'll actually come back to sh3d! just don't see the point right now. maybe claude can help me mod sh3d so i can fight off mobs with a bow and arrow, or blow it up with some TNT :D

Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:02AM (#50241447)
sh3d seems like an actual CAD-like tool to actually plan your furniture. what i find fun about this minecraft map is to make my actual home my base in the game, try to make it looo like my home and then just play minecraft while exploring the surroundings i know already.

then again, every building is white and basic, so not that nice for sightseeing.

then again, i could blow up my annoying neighbors house with a couple of TNT blocks (in minecraft!)

Re:Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:24AM (#50241199)
almost want to download this just so that i can put furniture into the apartment i live in :D nice project.
Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:01AM (#50240099)
Lula (not the Trump buddy) wins and Brazil wants to do some non-US financial stuff. Get ready for some CIA shenanigans...
> we need to defend our right to use these open platforms - definitely the PC

coming from someone who thought they'd refresh their PC in 2026 (planned this in 2024), i agree. getting priced out feels like the first step in the wrong direction.

if we've learned anything from movie and show streaming then yes, publishers will absolutely all start their own game streaming service if it ever takes off. nice that Microsoft is building a gaming monopoly, can't have multiple platforms if there's only one mega-publisher.
Re:I trained a 360M model to pretend to be a terminal on Thursday October 22, 2026 @06:53AM (#50193663)
or it's kind of a schroedinger's PHP. as long as you don't debug it, it simultaneously includes every security hole ever, and none of them.
Re:I trained a 360M model to pretend to be a terminal on Thursday October 22, 2026 @05:29AM (#50193160)
wonder if the PHP on this hallucinated terminal is patched already.
bit the bullet, it is what you think it is.
"oh no, my wife's head!", he says, calmly.
especially if you take 'invaded' as face-value as being in the past. are we talking about Iran, Venezuela, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras or Mexico?

(some countries could be mentioned multiple times)

(some people will want to argue if all of these were true military invasions. fine, then let's call some of them CIA coups, soft-power takeovers, planned regime changes etc.)

(tried to contain this list to instances were it was about oil, remove the oil and the list would get a loooot longer)

> commonly boiled (often in beer)

woah, i'm intrigued...does the taste of the beer infuse into the sausage? wonder what the difference is between boiling it in a light lager versus a guinness.

as a by-product you then get sausage-flavored beer, but that doesn't sound nearly as yummy as beer-flavored sausage.

oh well there you go, that's something i wasn't aware of. to me, all of them are 'Wienerli', no matter the type of meat. i even call the vegetarian ones 'Wienerli'.
+1 for frankfurter and wiener, because those are regional synonyms for basically the same type of sausage. of course it might have some local adjustments, but you know what to expect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_sausage

but brat? a Bratwurst is a very different kind of sausage. thicker, different meat, different taste, different preparation, different taste. frankfurter / wienerli, are commonly boiled in water, bratwurst go on a grill. (Brat = braten = roast).

i got a western-european POV. maybe USians use these words differently. which means they're wrong. or wronger than europeans are when arguing what stuff should be called. doughnut / berliner / krapfen / [insert name you use], just to trigger some people.

*den
funnily enough the article uses brat, wiener and frankfurter to describe the sausages. i mean you could argue that wiener and frankfurter are the same, but a brat(wurst) clearly is a different type of dog.

where i live 95% of the shops use a terminal from SIX[0], small shops use SumUp[1] or TWINT(as far as i understand that's comparable to venmo). i've seen about <5 shops with bitcoin stickers, mostly abroad. and they were mostly vape shops, interestingly enough. guess there's no demand at all for crypto in the physical spaces i'm a part of.

which makes sense, you'd either end up paying in pegged, virtual crypto dollars, or pay with a completely separate crypto currency which then means that the shoes you bought a month ago are suddenly worth a magnitude more or less. might as well pay in turkish lira.

fair point...

maybe in 2030 i'll have a chinese gaming PC with chinese local AI. would be interesting to see if they can do the same to US tech companies as they do to european car manufacturers. i'm ready for it...

Re:Revolut down as users report app not working on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @08:33AM (#50165388)
how exactly does one walk into a shopify store?

the point was about physical flesh-to-flesh shopping experiences.

i was fully expecting to see black and white pictures of some german soldiers testing a newly built weapon, was surprised to see a football player carrying a hotdog-shaped cannon.

the broken/fake german did make me suspicious, so i should've seen it coming.

EDIT: imagine a Schwerer Gustav[0] shooting a huge sausage, that's where my brain was going.

EDIT2: according to wiki Gustav can shoot 14 rounds per day, so we could deliver 14 of these sausages[1] daily. why? not sure, combating food scarcity without having to actually go there. Sausage as a Service, directly to your front door.

> point it at a dozen H100s we own

uhm...wake me up when I can buy one(1, single, uno) GPU to upgrade my PC so that I can play modern games with high graphics, without feeling like I'm being bled dry.

y'all got dozens of H100 at home? isn't that ~300k??

yup! got a sports bike as well, same experience. actually the biggest fans of my bike are boys between ~3-15 years of age. smiling, pointing at me, telling me to rev or do a wheelie :D
as with lots of muscles, it's actually the dudes who care about this the most :D get hugely muscular, buy a nice sports car and dudes will absolutely love you.
wonder how long they'll be able to uphold this reputation, it's a bit puzzling to me that they still have one after three years of genocide in Palestine/Gaza and attacks on Lebanon, Iran, Qatar, Yemen and Syria. with the president having a warrant for war crimes and being investigated in his own country. and far-right government officials proudly saying that they want to eradicate their arab neighbors, and other heinous shit.

seems to me like lots of people are wary of ever criticizing or changing their mind about Israel, because their population once was the target of arguably the most heinous genocide in history, so far, which i'm of course very sorry for. must've caused some heavy, multi-generational trauma, other than that i can't explain why they're acting the way they do. don't make the mistake of translating official government statements or looking at population surveys, truly horrific, barbaric stuff. but of course the only terrorists in all of this are their neighbors which they keep in open-air prisons they at this point have bombed to rubble.
