This is a bummer we lost a real pioneer :(
Feels nice to see a program with high efficacy - another cool part about this vs other 503cs or nonprofits is how efficient it is at outcomes: books in hands
Thanks for highlighting that your children aren't you! Easy to forget.
Downvote away, but: Academics have a duty to explain their years of inaction while their students have wilted and faltered as a direct result of academics not understanding how to to be effective in the real world in which their students are expected to be productive members. Those that cant, teach, and teach ridiculous fallacies they personally subscribe to. These people are too weak to stand up to their own bosses and boards. Are those the meek and weak we want teaching? Instead of real critical thinking they instilled a twisted sick worldview about social issues that have no connection to creating market value and being a good, supportive human that lifts all boats. They focus on things no businessperson would even consider engaging while missing the forest for the trees. Wikipedia is the last concern of this rapidly imploding rightthink crumbling empire, on its last legs from those whose families bore the ultimate cost to get their kid a degree that is increasingly worthless.
I propose our leadership cut funding and fine any program in the US where a professor is not actively working in their field at a minimum part-time. These people are so out of touch it is literally sickening when you think of all the negative downstream effects. Citizens should demand better of their tax dollars - academia in its form today is a cancer that is holding back your youth from greatness and robbing our nation of the qualities that made it great, kneecapping our young talent for independent thought before they even figure out who they are.
Unpopular opinion: In a similar vein I often wonder if the somewhat imperfect/wasteful overhead of paying for the MIC should be budgeted in a way that rewards nonuse of materials as well as preparedness, to decouple the useage of these munitions from the spikes in sales. Maybe im weird but given the motivations of all parties, I personally don't mind paying a dentist or doctor/surgeon an inflated rate if it means inaction on something not worth fixing is not persued....this is less harmful than uneccsary action. To me war preparedness is the same ideal and something where inaction could also be rewarded to remove uneccesary action. If we're OK with the grift, are we OK with paying for it and the destructive elements going unused?
Seems like in this particular overreach the victim has experienced adverse economic effects that they could recover. A job offer they had was rescinded and it
has come to light this was a ploy. Not an expert, but seems like this may be costly.
Mostly adaptability, fearless independence, and being a curious person. The rest falls into place if you come from a place of abundance vs projecting a parent's insecurity and fears on your prodigy.
Neat! May i ask how you got such a unique fabrication and engineering gig?
This is pretty slick - thank you for sharing
Grave concerns, especially after some of the research on canbus and vehicle network vulnerabilities.
Very cool. Good launch location. I still miss Creator burger every day.
Ooooh oxygen free copper chassis! (loads device with compressed audio)
This is awesome for existing researchers, and brings realistic training to a much broader audience ahead of getting their own hardware going.
Shout out to Photopea, an awesome tool (I prefer it to GIMP) given it's portability and availability in the browser
A24 and who they hire don't compose all the songs - for movies the music supervisor is either picking songs or hiring composers - it is either scored (custom written for the show $$$$), or famous tracks are licensed ($$), or songs from royalty free stock music libraries are selected and used($).
The bigger the budget the more custom scoring and less stock music.
Lot of negativity here around what should be a positive anecdote. Cool move, will likely inspire some kids towards engineering later in life.
I dig the commitment to the low poly look! Really cool and fits in with the new design direction.
Cool! Bring on the era of personal assistants!
This is amazing, thanks for sharing!
Yes - also a great format for storage and collaboration
Maybe force professors to write in cursive, ditch word processors, and send dissertations nobody will read by pigeon. Or they could fix the hubris and engage where the actual action and throughput have moved. A lot of the folks that encouraged builders to skip school had the right idea early, and saw the delta ahead of the rest of the market.
The bigger problem is the toxic posture of administrators, teachers, school boards, and donors who prioritize identity politics and institutional self-regard over critical thinking and self-sufficiency, then dismiss one of the best thought partners we’ve had to date.
If you can’t laugh at the position universities willingly put themselves in, you’re probably part of the group society is laughing at: the group with the hubris and unearned righteousness. Plumbers are outearning you and people know real value is created by people doing the work, building things, and moving markets, not credential gatekeepers. A degree does not make someone objectively better, and an expensive piece of paper bought with family money is increasingly a bad trade once you look at the earnings delta and lost time.
It’s fine to say college has become a lemming factory that gives students a brutally distorted entry into a real world that does not reward performative values. The real world rewards outcomes.
Restricting tools will not fix that. It compounds it. Typical academia mindset: insisting on being a Luddite with rigor, and clinging to tradition to protect a status quo that is already sinking.
I'm personally thankful for the lens LLMs are holding up to these institutions refusal to understand their role, the market, and what makes for better citizens and people that can grow themselves and their communities.
They are amazing at flowcharts, because Mermaid is text based
Spend per pupil is uncorrelated. It's about the quality of parents first, the morals and values they instill in their kids (or don't - they are a reflection of their parents successes or failures).

Rich parents spend hundreds of thousands a year to control for one factor: just to keep their "average" offspring away from noisy and distracting troublemakers whose parents can't get their life together enough to even do the basic parenting. You wouldn't throw your puppy into a pool of sharks, so why would you put your kid in a suboptimal and potentially dangerous place if you can afford otherwise?
Friday-new_new_final.flp isnt a versioning system its a cope. Excited to see DAWs evolve.
