Not an expert, but couldn’t the mRNA vaccine target only part of the virus genome that’s stable across mutations/variants? That would give you a broad vaccine resistant to mutations
They want you to not commit fraud, they also want to catch you if you do
Using Vinegar + SponsorBlock makes safari YouTube incredibly usable. You get no ads, no sponsor messages, and Picture in Picture support
Right now I’m working on a heads up display using a pair of AR glasses and a pinephone. At the moment you just get the time and a battery level in the corner of your vision, but the interesting thing is the platform. Every hud app is just a Wayland client, and the apps get positioned absolutely on the screen by the compositor
Okay but we’re not talking about a product we’re talking about humans. Real people’s lives. Throwing out emotion is inherently evil.
Sorry, I wasn’t specific. I was talking about how cImport works in Zig. I didn’t know `zig cc` worked differently.
“ Zig’s @cImport builtin is unique in that it takes in an expression, which can only take in @cInclude, @cDefine, and @cUndef. This works similarly to translate-c, translating C code to Zig under the hood.”

Zig actually transpiles the C code into Zig code, then compiles that
You could set the variables in a pam module, then you don’t need to worry about profile
GPU passthrough has been a game changer for me. I stream all my games from a computer in a closet running Proxmox. Windows is still there in the background, but I almost never have to interact with it
Really agree. Programming and gaming are the only things I use my laptop for. I have my iPad for CAD and art, everything else I do on my phone. All my trip planning is done on there, all my finances, everything on the phone.
Do you really get a new IP every day? Every ISP I’ve had usually gives me the same IP after a restart
Are there a lot of mobile web games?
It’s been a bit since I was in the cheap android phone market, but those phones don’t work as well as you say. Calling texting probably work fine, but I doubt Uber or maps will work great or at all. Anything internet heavy like that and you’re gonna be crazy frustrated
Copy and paste works great on my apple device. I can even copy and paste between devices. What are you talking about?
Have you considered swapping Windows and Linux? Depending on your use case, you can still get pretty good performance out of virtualized Windows if you use PCI-E passthrough
> what's the point of capability if you're never going to use it.
The point is to use them on a real danger. Accurate or not, the Pentagon clearly doesn’t see this ballon as a threat in any capacity. Why would they do anything other than keep an eye on it?
Yup. Apple really set the bar. I’ve never expected battery life like this from my laptop. Now that I know I can get the same(or better) performance with much higher efficiency, I’m never going back.
My laptop doesn’t heat up anymore. It doesn’t die. If it has fans, they’re absolutely silent. All this, and I haven’t had to change my workload at all.
If you’ve had some success with an existing model, I think I’ll explore the idea with GPT3! Getting the prompt right is gonna be tricky, do you remember how you got AI Dungeons to play along?
I really don’t know why you feel the need to point this out when I made no claims about feasibility. I think it’s worth exploring even if our current tech isn’t up to it.
Your anecdote gave me an idea. What if we use AI to enhance the communication between people instead of replacing the people?
Imagine you give a problem statement to the LLM, then it tried to find all the subtleties, confusing parts, room for interpretation, etc. All of the people involved revise the problem statement to make it more clear and give it back to the LLM. Iterate like that until satisfied
Sharing a useful app I found: The Orca Scan app on iPhone can scan and decode all kinds of barcodes and qr codes
I would blame Adobe. The Adobe suite is massive, and it sounds like it hasn't been ported to M1. So I'm not surprised that it doesn't perform well on the base model. In my experience, it has more than enough ram for web browsing, streaming, and developing, all at the same time.
Peripherals have been fine, except for monitors as you mentioned. I do think it's ridiculous that I can only have one external monitor when it's clearly able to support more than that. I can add a third monitor through my iPad or DisplayLink, but both of those methods breaks DRM video.
Right now with just safari and a few background things I'm hovering at 6gb in use, so you're not wrong about how much memory is being used. Regardless I don't think it's a problem for light users. A light user imo would be just browsing and email. 8GB will give you plenty of headroom in that case.
I'm going to keep an eye on ram usage for the next few days. I'm curious what it will look like on a more full workload because if things have been swapping out, I haven't noticed.
I will agree with your last point. If I had bought this machine for doing seriously development I would've gone for 16gb. Saying that, I've been pleasantly surprised with its power. I've been playing with Metal, throwing together a native version ShaderToy, and it hasn't felt unpowered once. Even when running the iPad emulator.
I did feel a little duped when I learned that some M1/M2 machines can only support one external monitor. Now I have to replace my two monitors with a widescreen.
Tricked how? I’ve got an M2 8GB and loving it
*blockchain tech would never be where it is today…
I’ll bet blockchain is only as popular as it is because of the money. But other forms of decentralization like Mastodon or Matrix are pretty separate from the whole crypto sphere
For me, it's Shapr3D. It has the most intuitive CAD interface I've ever used and it's all based around the pencil. Pretty killer app, especially if you have a 3D printer.
