> For some things to make sense, you must have learned enough about the field

Well there’s your mistake. If there is extra context the reader needs in order to be sufficiently relieved of their ignorance to fully appreciate your post perhaps you should consider adding it.

I’m guessing you are probably the author, so I will engage with you here in the outdated comments incase you look at them from time to time.

In this post I felt that you held back what you are really trying to say to the extent that it rendered the piece meaningless. You just spilled 800 words worth of ink on the same vacuous platitudes you seem to accuse companies of.

So I am curious what the real message here is. What change do you want?

Companies didn’t arrive at the culture of giving workers more perks, independence, respect, etc. for no reason. CEOs don’t wake up and think “You know we should be nicer”. No it was through competition. Companies spent recent years fighting for talent and talent could make choices so they chose companies that best fit their lifestyle, represented them, actualized them, and so on. We get paid very well so salary is not the chief concern, other things are.

Maybe as we enter more austere times we’ll see a shift. Certainly Elon’s behavior hasn’t gone unnoticed. But I think your advocacy for _whatever_ should be clarified so it can be properly critiqued.

That would lead to a more interesting article.

So is this post saying anything?
Is LTE and 5G performance degradation due to the wireless technology or is it somewhere upstream of that? Like what good is throwing more radio capacity at a stadium if it’s the backhaul, peering, or some other appliance in the middle that is getting overwhelmed?

This seems unsurprising.

The two ideologies, liberals and conservatives.
This is an article from a Toronto newspaper. Toronto gets just as cold as, if not colder than helsinki in the winter.
> Does Finland have a problem with Mexican cartel meth and fentanyl being dumped by the truckloads into its communities?

All I hear are excuses

this is such a hacker news blog post
might be worth looking at the 200 years before that
it’s robbery because the users here, myself included, would be on the losing end of wealth redistribution. If it’s the other way round it’s good business.
> Please stop fantasizing about 'global revolutions'.

why? we are on a prominent site in an industry that likes to speak of “changing the world.” Or is that just a euphemism for “I want to make myself rich”?

is this an “old wives tale” (for lack of a better term atm) that turned out to be true? i swear my parents used this as a reason to get a mutt for me as a kid in the 90s..

today’s pure breed dogs are sometimes sad to see..

> That's what is happening when you "buy" a device and the device maker uses it to run code that serves only themselves (without receiving permission), to the detriment of your privacy. I can only hope RISC-V combined with people willing to care can lead to a return to a time when people actually own stuff and ownership is something we respect.

I dont understand how this would change anything.

eh, apple pay's been available for 9 years now. ROW had more POS's that were ready to go day 1 because of the existing contactless support but if you had a supported US bank you could use it.
Well I hate to tell you this but motives are an important piece of how the world works. People don’t think and say things in a vacuum. I am not generous with giving people the benefit of the doubt when their position is in alignment with white supremacists.
It’s totally cool to question motives and in fact it’s an important part of understanding why things happen.
I have not, nor do I care to entertain that line of thinking.
The statement is absolutely true but the people who have bought into the Woke Mind Virus nonsense are going to cry about it anyway. And then they will use some other statistics that they think will be a justification for making racist statements without understanding why one thing is racist and the other thing isn.
Bunch of snowflakes in this thread lmao
Oh grow up. This is pure concern trolling.

at least then the money would get distributed to non-billionaires…

On one side you have reactionaries who want to solve the problem by throwing everyone in jail and generally creating more misery for everyone except rich tech workers.

On the other side you have idealistic liberals who want to solve the problem by adding more social services but taking no further action.

This is likely a problem created by extreme wealth inequality and the fix is probably not what the posters on this site would be interested in entertaining.

> IMO one of the challenges I've never personally seen solved well is how to truly share the fruits of success with all the people who were necessary for it to happen.

I always thought a co-op would be an interesting model but I don’t really know how to synthesize that with raising venture capital

What makes you think our press is free or independent? Because they say so? Our press is owned by our local oligarchs. Our government, conveniently enough, is also owned by our local oligarchs.
Reporting on Ukraine is pure wartime propaganda. Western and Russian sources both do it. Look at how often Western sources cite the Ukrainian ministry of defense and no one else in their reporting. You see western sources claiming russia is losing or that there's a six figure death toll on the Russian side and then documents get leaked and whoopsie it's actualy less than 20,000. It's hard to blame anyone for not knowing what the hell is really going on because it's intentionally obfuscated from basically everyone except the militaries involved.

However this type of thing happens at a larger scale than just the Ukraine war. I mean look at the "uigher files" that contain like actors from hong kong and shit lol. If you think just Russia and China exaggerate in their news you're not looking hard enough at our news.

> This definitely doesn't address that the Chinese government is centrally only interested in furthering their own interests, often without care or regard to its expense, and nothing can hold them accountable.

Sounds familiar...

> With the US and US hegemony, you can actually hold someone accountable. Bad actors can be protested, outed, and dealt with peacefully.

It's a good thing we held one random trader from Credit Suisse accountable for 2008.

> When Europe needs military assistance, who shows up?

Europe is a vassal. If the US didn't show up that would be a problem for the US.

> One must also point out every single one of this account's comments is either Chinese or Russian apologism.

Why must one do that? Is it wrong to question the typical narratives we get out of Western-aligned sources?

> China is already busily building a quasi-empire by persuading poor nations to enter debt slavery over infrastructure projects.

I don’t disagree that the person you are replying to has an idealistic perspective on this… but turning around and blaming the situation on the “woke mind virus” is _even more_ idealistic.

> The Communist authorities dislike the idea of anything, let alone a large private business, outshining the party.

I have a hard time believing this is the reason the Communist party wants to control capitalist elements… because they “outshine the party”
