News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Why? Their system is literally mined for its Q&A merit by search engines. If it was all very bad information, NYSE: RDDT would not exist.
Disagree. Laser scar removal is a billion-dollar business. You seriously don't have to accept them as story accounting if you have "fuck you" money. As the costs come down and the business grows, in several decades it will eventually land on it being part of final wound treatment.

Just let me know when I can install an alternate OS to my junk drawer of 6-10 year old iPhones. That's the holy grail.

The X-factor of LLM AI advice is how it consists of both artificial and intelligent responses; It cannot cloud judgement by having feelings and will still think very carefully about your problem.

It's very much a bandwagon mentality. "We" is you.

If they can pull them out, they can also drop fresh ones down.

Not sure if that is better than just using a helicopter however.

Without actual examples of it working to reduce latency, this is purely academic and not engineering. What happened to the 1.5s problem in the introduction?

Gallardo had a baby with a Cybertruck and the ugly gene was copied. Showing a car at night is a great way to disguise the shape.. they learned next to nothing from the Cybertruck styling?

I don't see what point you are trying to make. At 25 losing your vocation gives you more than plenty of time to transition into another lifestyle. Many people will consider this the very beginning of their career. At 75, retirement is near. Your legacy is known but not final. 6 months is less than 1% of your lived life, and you have a lifetime of memories to reflect and enjoy.
Re:I know why Mathematicians weep on Thursday October 15, 2026 @12:12PM (#50105799)
Mourning is fine if it is temporary, however no man should dread their own future if they still have control of their life. This is the idea of unalienable rights and was enshrined hundreds of years ago. It seems to me that anyone dreading the future of their field failed to take a page out of their retirement strategy and diversify their own interests, i.e. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymath

>Yes, some are crying about bruised egos, the feeling of wasted years, a creeping sense of status obliteration, the frustration of an unfair competitor, the indignation of feeling cheated and mistreated, and uncertainty about the future. But they are also mourning...

This nails it, however IMHO its almost all bruised egos and feeling of wasted time. I don't know the ratio of A:B but I also don't know anyone that is in the latter category of feeling doom and mourning that their craft is about to regress.

Re:Passkeys Are Not a Trap on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:30PM (#50097078)
Not only are Yubikeys agnostic, they cleanly slip from host to guest and present exactly as you expect, without a technical fight. Passkeys? I assume they could do this in a few years..
Any injuries related to the incident, yes.
Lack of duty of care is the crime you have here. The "pics or it didn't happen" phrase needs to be modified to "criminal charges or it didn't matter". You don't walk around with cash sticking out of your pocket, you don't leave your car keys in the ignition when parked on the street, and you don't leave critical infra unprotected online.

I've been using Whisper with great results; GPU acceleration gets the job done, nothing leaves my box, and the medium model is overkill.

There are 2 auth mechanisms I would trust my life to: unique, memorized passwords and physical keys. That's it. You really should not trust anything else for anything important.

No, it is the vibe of defending humanity's choices without even trying to understand why they do it.
Re:GLM-Legal: Advancing Agentic Legal Intelligence on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:31AM (#50066748)
Don't underestimate the bang for the buck benchmark. I sure would be interested in any model that performed 10x above open models for half the cost.
Re:Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search on Monday October 12, 2026 @12:03PM (#50058368)
Thank you Claudia. The cat pollution problem predates your training. In summation, cat pictures started as a nonpathogenec virus on Facebook and slowly matured into a slight benefit to some and an off-topic scourge to others. It's net benefit to humanity are debatable.
Re:Citroen revives the 2CV for an electric age on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:45AM (#50058117)
Retro styling doesn't age well and it just makes the overall vehicle harder to repair. Just take parts from your existing inventory and build me a good looking tiny car. EVs should be ground up designs, not some artistic regurgitation of some 40 year old idea with bespoke parts and inflated costs.
Re:Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:25AM (#50057804)
Cat picture pollution arrived around 2005 with Facebook. Directly driving it was the new idea of a cellphone camera. AOL and the era before it didn't have the cat picture pollution problem because they didn't have the technology to post them.
I would put empathy on the bottom of the list. Things such as logic, reasoning, learning, persistence, and creativity would be on the top.
Ddwrt is a joke today. I would pay to have it go away forever or finally become mature and not be forever in beta.
If not humans, what else could you possibly use to compare it with for judgement on safety? It is heavily implied this was humans, but you somehow know of a better model for public safety?
Re:Terence Tao: Math 2.0 [pdf] on Sunday October 11, 2026 @11:24AM (#50044300)
In a nutshell, Math 2.0 is not fully compatible with Math 1.0 and the forced upgrade is breaking features, plug-ins, and we're tracking several new bugs, but this is still the fastest, most secure, and best version of Math ever released, with powerful new features and unrivaled privacy.
Re:Terence Tao: Math 2.0 [pdf] on Sunday October 11, 2026 @11:11AM (#50044152)
Funny enough, it is a good argument with just a sprinkle of reality for context: Assume effective alternatives to this cocktail exist. Assume you had access to these effective alternatives. Can this be combined with other drugs? Surgery? You say you just need to cure it. You must consider the deeper mechanisms at play to consider all the possible options for living.
