It is strange that everyone is so enthusiastic about the gratitude. If the crow were a Silicon Valley company and the woman an open source developer, we'd get:

"Society owes you nothing. The woman gave away her labor under a permissive license and the crow society just took what she offered under her own free will. What I really cannot stand is people giving something away and then demanding additional terms."
