The thing about protectionism is that sometimes it works. Also China is definitely not playing any kind of a fair game. Also adding another supply chain dependency is definitely a geopolitical risk.
Same for Europe. Same car is 3x cheaper in China. The western consumer is paying a lot of money keeping the auto industry on life support.
Every force has an equal and opposite force. The more you push, the more push-back you will get.
Re:True Rate of Unemployment on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @03:18AM (#49532862)
Job and slavery are two very different things. I love free markets too but not to the level of autism (for lack of better word) and ignoring how things actually work in the physical world. Shallow economic theory doesn't create happy and functional families. Economic theory that is mostly rigged to serve the rich, entrenched, and powerful anyways.

Is there alternative syntax? I don't want to be typing "end" everywhere. Stack based, declarative, sexp, indentation, anything?
Re:Qwen3.8-27B on Saturday August 15, 2026 @04:49AM (#49308920)
And you're claiming Anthropic and OpenAI are not doing the same thing?
Re:DeepSeek peak/off-peak pricing update on Friday August 14, 2026 @08:27AM (#49297840)
For the price of can of Coke, you can do a week of work. For most, that is not a bottleneck.
Re:Gemini 3.7 Flash on Thursday August 13, 2026 @02:39PM (#49290193)
DSV4 Flash is in a tier of its own, until at least the price change arrives.
DSV4 Flash 0731 already runs on RTX 4090 24GB + 128GB system RAM at a usable tok/s and quantization.
IoT works just fine with Zigbee that can be 100% local.
Didn't know this existed. Have to say that's some great looking art.
Similar market correction happened in 2008 and the the US has definitely not gone more free-market-let-the-bad-businesses-fail direction since then. Rich a-holes always find ways to build systemic risk where they can reap the rewards and socialize the losses.
OpenAI and Anthropic valuation crashing would crash the entire AI story, which would crash the market.

AI labs have been doing "distillation attacks" against actual creators like artists and engineers since the beginning.
Re:Previewing GPT‑5.6 Sol: a next-generation model on Saturday June 27, 2026 @01:25AM (#48695405)
DeepSeek V4 Pro is only ~3-4x as expensive as Flash. It won't replace GPT-5.5 (nowhere near) but I've been using the $20 sub to punch through tough cases and use Pro for rest.
The fact that so many European green parties have been so strongly anti-nuclear was always a bit of a head-scratcher for me. It seems so dumb on so many different fronts. Goes to show the power of uninformed public, wildly misleading or actively lying stereotypes and scaremongering.
Re:Qwen3.7-Max: The Agent Frontier on Wednesday May 20, 2026 @06:10PM (#48214918)
I get 150t/s peak, 120t/s avg with Qwen3.6 27B Q4 with a 4090 on Linux. Now that MTP has landed into llama.cpp.
Re:The US Is Winning the AI Race on Wednesday May 13, 2026 @03:08PM (#48126083)
Well if you discount the people China has killed and is killing within its borders, the number is definitely smaller. As well as another land empire called Russia.
Re:The US Is Winning the AI Race on Wednesday May 13, 2026 @02:52PM (#48125887)
You should read about the difference between a land empire and a sea empire.
Re:The US Is Winning the AI Race on Wednesday May 13, 2026 @02:39PM (#48125704)
Strange. I'm switching from Codex and Claude to Pi with Qwen3.6 27B local and Deepseek V4 Flash which is dirt cheap but powerful.
It's not democracy when it's not the votes that determine what government does, but money.
Re:3D-Knitting: The Ultimate Guide on Thursday March 12, 2026 @05:12AM (#47348237)
No, it doesn't miss the point. Different people have different interests. Knitting just hits more overlapping Venn diagrams than just one.

Re:The whole thing was a scam on Sunday March 01, 2026 @10:59AM (#47207874)
You are against private property rights? Because abolishing the right to owns things is the only way to prevent any form of capital accumulation.
Re:The whole thing was a scam on Sunday March 01, 2026 @10:58AM (#47207858)
Every unmaintained system degrades. That's next to a tautology. In my opinion, the base problem is modern technology itself that creates the capability for widespread wealth inequality and social fragmentation, without needing real labor or social bonds anymore.
Re:The whole thing was a scam on Saturday February 28, 2026 @06:59PM (#47201949)
Free market capitalism and corporatocracy are two opposite things. (Free markets don't exist without strong institutions and regulation)
The cure for high prices is high prices.
Only if you don't want or need any geopolitical gradient at all.
...because the point of surveillance was never to solve crime.

I don't see how that is related to my comment in any way.
