The irony. Again. Great advices and reminders tho.

I love it too. It's nice to be able to enjoy some art with personality when everything out there is inoffensive and bland art.

Whelks come to my mind. I like them with ton of mayonnaise but it’s hit or miss. When I get it out of its shell, if it’s take too much time to see it unfold completely, I know I won’t have a pleasant time. You never know what you’ll get with them. Snails are more predictable.

To be honest most of us French only love it for the garlic butter we serve them with.

That’s the moment we need to show some morality and empathy.

Great mentality.

The one issue here is that to achieve this result and make the customer king (or spoiled child, you choose), they exploit and abuse absolutely everyone else, people and partners.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @10:49AM (#50072636)
Well, plexamp is a dealbreaker for Apple that more and more wants you to buy Apple Music and all their services. They have more to lose by opening to plexamp users, who are not the more prone to spend money, or other services, than to lock users in their very own walled garden. Open source software on consumer friendly hardware is the way now.

Phase 1 : Get every friction out of customer's life Phase 2 : ? Phase 3 : Profit

A braindead customer is a better customer.

Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:18AM (#50071262)
Seems like a great way to sell you the homeview two times.

They want the EU to be the bad guy that prevents citizens to get all the nice stuff they release.

Because they want to get every single friction out of your life.

Re:The designer lamps in my house on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @10:02AM (#49978665)
Indeed. Having such nice lamps and or items is especially nice when you put them in a nice interior with everything perfectly finished. Put them in a messy place and or a less than perfect place and you lose a lot of the wow effect. Great place and great lamps here, congratulations to OP !

Thank you very much for sharing the link and putting so much passion into it.
Re:Show HN: Automating my 35mm film scanning pipeline on Sunday October 04, 2026 @02:20AM (#49951178)
Foveon sensor is composed of three Red/blue/green layers, so each pixels know exactly its color, while the Bayer sensor used by other manufacturers is composed of pixels that are either red, blue or green, and that implies some reading out of its color and its neighbour's one... and some glitches (typically moire or purple fringes). In order to reduce those, a Low-pass filter that blurs the picture a little bit is added on top of the sensor. Therefore, foveon pictures are way sharper, with true colors. This is the theory for colors... in fact it's a very hard to tame sensor and results can be very random. Plus the cameras are very slow because they have to process 3x more information. Sigma being a very very small company versus the other big guys, their R&D is limited. Still, it's a very nice camera to use for geeks who takes time to understand it. You hate it or love it. No in-between.
Re:Show HN: Automating my 35mm film scanning pipeline on Sunday October 04, 2026 @02:14AM (#49951152)
Everyone has a love/hate relationship with Foveon, that's the beauty of the sensor isn't it ? Would you mind sharing your project ? That's awesome. Have you been able to compare crispness of files ? Dng compatibility from latest cameras, although it results in huge files, was pretty useful but files were not as sharp as native X3F developed in Sigma Photo Pro.
This may be the main difference between consuming content and listening to music. For some people, more is not always better and the process of building a collection and putting time and energy into it is a big part of the experience.

Same here with one of those CDs full of shareware in early 90s. Autorun.bat running an interface.exe when the disk was inserted into the family computer's drive. Navigating the flash interface, I found the adult section and instuctions to decrypt the pictures by calling a surcharged phone number. I browsed the CD and found the corresponding /folder full of lady01.ass or lady02.tits, can't remember the extension. Tried to rename files to .jpg. And it Worked.

I then made my very own .bat with "ren .tits .jpg" into that folder and had a great afternoon.

I can't even be sad or disappointed by this news. The "logged only" access to old.reddit.com already led me to use the website way less than before. Considering how reddit's also way less interesting than it used to be in the past, I can only thank the team for making my decision to slowly quit it easier. Thank you guys.
It is. Actually the best candidates for 0% seems to be the IPA beers as the bitterness adds this little "punch" classic zero alcohol beers seems to suffer from.

« Nothing to hide » evolved to « nothing to think ».
2012 and 2017 Celsius H. Very expensive and both maxed up but those fans always running even with limited usage made them the worse to use.
The two made-in-Japan, premium grade, Fujitsu laptops I had to work with were by far the worse pieces of electronic I have ever used. Both exhibited identical defects: fans running continuously at maximum speed, and the batteries would completely die within hours of the devices being powered off. Windows or Linux. And don't talk about that tiny unresponsive trackpad to me. Never again.

People are getting used to censor themselves in order not to be reported, banned, or «hurt » other sensibilities. The words « rape » couldn’t be written in instagram for example, what a great way to deal with such a serious issue. Mainly an American thing spreading away from young people if you ask me. Sorry America, just being honest here.
>Also a whole plane to myself? What a steal!

Except if you're the main character of a plot !

>While many Americans feel their phone takes up too much of their time, are they doing anything about it?

Can they ? Is there any other solution than just uninstalling everything ?

Re:Fastpotify on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @03:46AM (#49519198)
Thanks for sharing. I loved buying then downloading cheap samplers from punk and hardcore labels when I was younger. That was part of the culture and that really helped me discover new music and shaping my tastes. This is something that doesn't exist that much anymore and I'm glad to find this initiative. I try to listen to classical music but that's a very difficult world to discover, this will probably help by helping me to focus on few titles instead of jumping in the gigantic and maze-ish pool !
