Re:New iMac with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @01:34PM (#50262723)
I wish they built an iMac Mini with a square display while being bigger than the HomeView. It's a niche category but a nod to the Macintosh Classic.
I'd rather play golf instead of watching birds all day. I think the fundamentals of why it slows cognitive decline are similar.
Re:OLED iPad Mini on Monday October 26, 2026 @10:30AM (#50244377)
What isn't smooth is the separation between the iPad and iPhone teams. I'm pretty sure new things being visited on the Duo such as the split keyboard interface have already been tried on the iPad side.

It's time for competent programmers to get rehired to help patch massive exploits that are about to unfold before us.
This is the 2nd time. I'm glad I moved away from this platform.
Sounds like Elon Musk's plan of Tesla owners selling idle compute on their cars.
Re:An hour of audio transcribed in about 13s on MacBook Air on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @02:27PM (#50076318)
People say old MacBook Air M1 but its architecture was so groundbreaking that it's still relevant in 2026. Apple definitely underplayed its release in 2020.
Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @02:16PM (#50076153)
I suspect that this hardware is highly subsidized. Apple needs to quickly push AI (Apple Intelligence) and leapfrog SI (/s). It's unlike Apple to release a product like this so cheap. They're planning to make money through future AI services.

It should be trivial to reauthor .swf content to modern web standards.

I like this site because it exemplifies DOTADIW, do one thing and do it well.
My local news station started focusing on issues far across the country to monetize on sentational headlines and clicks... I'm glad there's concern about improving local news.
Better openweight models can't come fast enough.
You can get better cooling performance at the cost of slight water usage or you can use more energy without using water at all.

The greener solution is to use water.

I hope we're coming to a plateau with the HBM/GDDR7/on-chip RAM hype and get back to normalcy with system RAM alternatives for the rest of us.
Re:Chinese Cars Are Now Achieving 5-Star Safety Ratings on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @10:21AM (#49909414)
Unfortunately, with any organization, it's possible to buy safety ratings too.
Re:Upgrade your desktop: Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS is now available on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @10:19AM (#49909377)
Ubuntu has become the bloatware distro I've grown to dislike. Luckily with a CLI-based AI, one can choose any Linux flavor and customize it to their liking.

Come to think of it, who knows how many counterfeit postage stamps are in circulation? https://mailtheft.uspis.gov/
Re:Dots: Always-on agents on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @01:32PM (#49897097)
How does one work when all this stuff keep hitting the feed?
Re:Nvidia wants to put a watchdog chip next to every AI agent on Monday September 28, 2026 @09:56PM (#49887111)
At least they haven't DRM'd their chips yet.
In other words: "We're compute constrained and we've already reached an asymptote."
Dialup isn't supposed to be this smooth.
Let's just say it as it is... Wine is 'supposedly' an acquired taste but for most, it tastes bitter and not enjoyable for the cost. Tastes shift and luxury items from yesteryear no longer makes a strong statement about affluence to this generation.
I may be old-fashioned but the substitute mind-altering drugs you're mentioning does not sound like a more responsible pathway.
Re:Windows 11½ on Monday September 28, 2026 @02:53PM (#49882698)
This is a remarkable depiction of a modern operating system.
Re:Does AI stop children from learning? on Friday August 21, 2026 @04:11PM (#49393234)
Teachers have become proctors and not educators.
Our company shared a wall with an xray lab next door. My coworkers and I were always curious what impacts it would have to our health.
That has been the motto of our governors.
Re:Godox Transparent Viewfinder Camera C100 on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @10:26PM (#49177879)
Transparent viewfinder cameras aren't anything new. If you've ever used a disposable camera in the past--congratulations, that is it.
I'm using an iPhone Safari plugin called Noir to force darkmode and your tool is making white the absence of color. In other words, I think white is just an alpha channel.
