There are ways to control a device remotely without letting the device spy on you and call home - Zigbee, Matter, Esphome..
20minutes just means a shitty module or lots of ~1.3ghz noise (e.g. from dji o3/o4 or gopro cpu), although bad input filtering and gps located near an antenna could saturate the amplifier even with antenna on a different frequency. 1min is typical for cold fixes but you can make it faster by uploading ephemeris/cache using AssistNow (valid for about a month).
20x plan is $200, 5x is $100. Pausing $200 plan signups is effectively doubling prices (you can subscribe to two $100 accounts for the same money and get half as much usage), and that's exactly what they did.
Disconnect the u.fl to the antenna and it’ll be hard for it to transmit data unless you live next door to a cell tower.
HDMI breakout and a esp32 module flashed with esphome is another option. The tv most likely doesn’t care that the port that sent on/off command is not the same port the video signal is coming from..
You can do on/off using an IR blaster (broadlink integration with discrete on/off codes). It’s when you want to read volume etc things get trickier
> They do allow to unlock their bootloaders
Kafka himself would be proud if their unlocking process[0], but technically sure, they allow it
> Press "Apply for unlocking" at exactly 12:00 AM GMT+8 (pressing it too late will cause the "application quota limit reached" error. Use this website to check the time)
"Account Error" might show up. If that happens, retry after 10 days

To be fair print drivers have mostly been user mode. On Windows since win2000, and on macOS - since macOS 10 Cheetah.
> Also pilot suicide isn't something new and the aviation world has tried to come up with several regulations to ensure it doesn't happen
As AI171 has shown, turning the engines off on rotation does it reliably and there’s nothing that the other pilot or regulations can do to prevent it.
> and the likely eventual outcome will be the same for the US as it was for the USSR.
Split into a bunch of states with only one of them getting the debt burden and the nukes? and they try to invade some other 'ex-US' states a couple decades later?
> Hobbyist drones also don't ship with lidar in stock.
Is Neo a $20 toy? LIDARs are getting cheap quick, at some point when ToF sensors add $10 to BoM they will be in all drones.. I guess except US only SKUs? Not like you can't get pretty much the same data using just a single camera, GPS+IMU fusion and structure-from-motion..
US companies don't even sell consumer drones, so are they going to stay competitive by forcing consumers to buy $4000 enterprise models for their kids to play with?
> And banning the foreign ones means they can order domestic-made drones to have firmware that prevents them from operating in certain (government) areas, among other things.
Yeah because DJI drones are well known for their easy to hack firmware and lacking support for no fly zones..right? And they would openly flaunt any US law making any drones sold or flown the US to obey the NFZs? But wait, that's exactly what DJI drones used to do even without a law on the books, before FCC banned them.
Feels like having touch calibration procedure built into firmware and documented in the manual (remember those?) would also work.
> The only way to detect it from what I can see is to profile writes then append a "password:" string multiple times to measure the write-delay,
- Have the first check be a simple 8bit hash that filters out most passwords in microseconds, or use a customizable prefix instead of “password:”.
- have your password checking thread run in background at idle priority
- when you get an async password match, force usb disconnect and reconnect and the system will rescan the bus and mount your real drive.
Short of adversary dumping drive firmware (or them figuring out your hn account t, having a LLM scan the messages and finding this conversation) it’s not really easily detectable..
> hell Google doesn't either, and they're a lot bigger than them
It’s more likely that Google is trying to boycott EU initiatives to the extent it can since giving them any support would only turn the public opinion more favorable towards more US tech regulation, and that’s very much against Google’s own interests.
Also refuses to activate with alphanumeric passcode enabled..
The main anti prop wash thing in BF seems to be using a good frame design so that you don't get frame resonances below ~100+ Hz and that allows you to raise the lowpass gyro filter threshold high enough to let the PID loop handle propwash.
I think there should be mandatory courses the owner needs to take to own these breeds (and pass the exam with satisfactory marks), loose or not if one slip of a leash can lead to a kid getting mangled then it's not safe for the owner to walk even a leashed untrained dog.
They make robot dogs, e.g. famously Boston Dynamics but many others as well. And 6 is probably overkill for price/performance increase incremental to 4. Wheels are still much more practical and you can use them as feet in hybrid designs to be able to step over obstacles but still more agile than comparable bi/quadrupeds
Second stationary camera recording the screen meaning you just need to replace the screen with the virtual screen in the footage you send as the secondary camera feed, easy for a static camera because it’s an affine transform with fixed parameters. If you don’t wave your arms in a way where they overlap the screen region then it’s ridiculously easy, otherwise don’t forget to release the ‘cheating on’ foot pedal before doing that.
Yes and unless they start making new ones without any electronics in them they're all still banned
Which cheap (or expensive) phone does better log/raw video than iPhone 17 pro max?
And with match/exec rules you can always connect to MyHost and make it conditional whether to use a jumphost or not, so it's like an on demand vpn.. only with ssh.
Match host="MyHost" exec "! grep Home ~/.wifi-loc-control/.current"
ProxyJump home-jumphost.mydomain.tld
Were I an enterprising enshittificator, I would certainly make sure to force being online as a prerequisite for basic functionality for any TV that has ever been seen online since that proves that it's capable of connecting. So.. be careful upgrading the shitware, you might get more functionality that you've bargained for. Functionality that you can't downgrade because you don't own the TV.
Chinese transfer stations?
A cheap Android TV box. Between lack of proper hardware acceleration for 4K/Dolby Vision decoding and lack of sleep(!) support, I would never recommend that hardware, the ones that are actually recommended by the community are RP5 ($$$) and especially Intel Nx00 (N100 etc.) which are actually the gold standard of mainline(-ish in case of RPi) codec and hardware support.
